Post positions are your placements in the gates. They made a HUGE difference. Theres usually a metting before the race with all the jockeys and trainers, where they sign up for spots. Names are drawn at random. 1st, 2nd and 3rd are horrible and kinda dangerous--many junior devisions don't fill them, before its so easy to get bumbed againts the rail and cause an accident. 4-8 are the pack in a small race. The Pack usually starts from 4 and goes to around 12 in larger ones. It depends on the race. I've always liked 6, its dead center in most junior races. I didn't get it much, though, since i was the oldest. Anything past 12 is suicide. 1 and 20 are impossible to win with, almost. If you get 11, and your horse has gate issues, you can kiss winning goodbye if they double load--11 and 1 would get loaded first

There was one horse in Derby that got 11th and had gate issues, I cna't remember which
