With come-from-behind wins at both the 2012 Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, Reddam Racing's I'll Have Another has captured the nation's attention and is on his way to the Belmont Stakes in a quest for the Triple Crown. It's interesting to compare I'll Have Another to a horse considered by many to be the greatest horse of all time, Secretariat. I'll Have Another finished the 2012 Kentucky Derby with a time of 2:01 4/5. Secretariat was the come-from-behind winner in the 1973 Kentucky Derby with a time of 1:59 2/5. I'll Have Another ran the distance at the 2012 Preakness Stakes in 1:55.94. Secretariat's official time in that race was 1:54 2/5. Secretariat, known as the Big Red Horse, raced to victory at the 1973 Belmont Stakes in a world record time of 2 minutes 24. The nearest competitor finished 31 lengths behind him in one of the greatest races in sports history. I'll Have Another, an undersized chestnut colt with a big heart, will be put to his greatest test at Belmont Park on June 9, 2012, in the 1 1/2 mile race known as The Test of the Champion. Whether or not he beats Secretariat's world record, a win there will earn him the prized Triple Crown, a feat not accomplished in the last 34 years.
